South Brisbane Sailing Club (SBSC) is a family based river sailing club. Established in 1903, the club is a part of Brisbane’s sporting history. Its club facilities are located in Orleigh Park at West End.

Our 2018-19 season  has commenced and we are in for a fun filled season.  The Club races boats under 5 metres long and we invite all S.B.S.C. members and the public to join the Brisbane River sailing community. If you don’t have a boat, you can hire one of the Club’s sailing dinghies.

When do we race
When We Race We sail every Saturday from the months of September through to the end of April, with about a six week break over the summer school holidays. The Club has an exciting racing and social racing program from Talk like a Pirate Day, Handicap Starts, Club Championship, Ladies Championship, and annual competition against one of our sister clubs for a trophy that goes back decades.
Hire a Sailing Boat
Hire a Sailing Boat We have a range of boats available for hire for a nominal fee. This includes 6 pacers, 3 herons, 5 Lasers, 2 NS14s, and 2 Tasars.
Boats are only available on Saturdays during the sailing season, from 2.30pm until approximately 4.30pm, when club rescue boats are in attendance.
Boat hire fees are $55 for day-members, or $35 for full members for each week’s use, which includes boat hire and race/nomination fees. Do we have to race or can we just cruise around?
You can do either but if cruising you must stay within the race area so the Support Boats have you in their sight and must finish when the last boat has finished the race.
You must be able to prove that you are competent to sail a boat.

Learn to Sail Our learn to sail program is very popular with generally over 60 people on the waiting list. The class is held over a six week period, with each new sailor being allocated a tutor i.e. one-on-one training.

The Learn to crew program is a great option for people with basic sailing skills looking to build their competency and confidence in Club Racing. Participants who enrol in the program will get:
• To sail in 3 club races in a hire boat with an experienced skipper.
• A sailing mentor for the duration of the program.
• Three (3) short theory sessions about racing tactics, rules and strategy.Details available via MeetUp or our Facebook page
Venue Hire The surroundings are correspondingly excellent with nearby well-lit off-street parking, and pathways and entrance graded for disabled access. Newly installed at the entrance is a large paved and landscaped area showing a nautical theme and allowing easy access from kerbside vehicles. Preferred community groups include children’s parties, weddings, craft and dance groups and workshops. VolunteeringThe Club is run by volunteers. We have people sitting on the beautiful banks of the river to records the race times of boats; volunteering to maintain the large Club owned boats etc. Interested in joining us?
